On 15 and 16 June, Riga will host a closing event of the “Culturability BSR” project (Culture for Sustainable Development - Culturability BSR Phase 2), taking place at Eduards Smilgis Museum, E.Smiļģa 37, and gathering more than 40 representatives from all the Baltic Sea Region countries – Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Sweden – and guests from Norway and Russia.
Cultural tourism in collaboration with creative industries, cultural planning incorporating the social aspects of urban milieu, and cultural gaming tools (Minecraft) as a means to raise public education, engagement and motivation – these are some of the “Culturability BSR” project outcomes that will be discussed during the project’s closing event in Riga. Common ground for further activities and cooperation possibilities in the Baltic Sea Region will be explored, searching for ways how to develop cooperation further and how to integrate the project’s results in the ongoing and future regional initiatives. The event will also try to summarise results from the six international seminars organised during the project’s course in Rendsburg (Germany), Vilnius (Lithuania), Gdansk (Poland), Pori (Finland), Tallinn (Estonia) and Jūrmala (Latvia), aiming to strengthen and facilitate the region’s cross-border cooperation by sharing knowledge and experience and by developing new cooperation projects.
It should be noted that “Culturability BSR” project is one of the Flagships under the EU Action Plan for the Baltic Sea Region. “Culturability BSR” aims to unveil the potential of culture as a driving force for long-term development, highlighting the importance of culture’s incorporation into such mainstay disciplines as environment, economy and social sphere, as well as to facilitate cross-sectoral and interdisciplinary cooperation on the horizontal and vertical levels among various organisations in the Baltic Sea Region. Project participants are high-ranking professionals and experts from all the Baltic Sea Region countries, representing a broad spectrum of organisations, capacities and competence.
Project “Culturability BSR” was initiated by the Nordic Council of Ministers together with its partners: Danish Cultural Institute in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, Government of Schleswig-Holstein in Germany, Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of Poland, Ministry of Culture of Latvia, Ars Baltica network based in Germany, Baltic Sea Cultural Centre Gdansk in Poland, Skåne Region in Sweden, Pori City in Finland, Jūrmala City in Latvia and NDPC.
Within the framework of the project new and innovative regional initiatives have been developed, co-financed by the Interreg funds and Swedish Institute. It proves the project’s practical impact and its importance in terms of developing the region’s culture, urban milieu, tourism and creative industries and the essential role of a joint strategic planning.
