Basic information
The jurisdiction of the Ministry in the field of literature and bibliography is to:
- Oversee the issues of literature and bibliography in the country,
- Participate in the drafting of legislation and other regulatory documents in the field of literature and bibliography,
- Develop the policy of literature and bibliography of the country, submit proposals for the drafting of policy and strategy in the field of literature and bibliography,
- Develop proposals for allocation of funds from the state budget to the sector,
- Compile and analyze information on topical processes and infrastructure of literature and bibliography, as well as other issues topical for the sector,
- Provide cooperation between the Ministry of Culture and local governments on the issues related to literature and bibliography,
- Provide cooperation between the Ministry of Culture and NGOs on the issues related to literature and bibliography,
- Participate in the drafting and coordination of international cooperation agreements of the Ministry of Culture.
In order to support the availability of the works gaining the Baltic Assembly Prize in Latvian, since 2020 the translation and the publication of the prizewinning works of Estonian and Lithuanian writers in the book series "New Classics" is ensured, in cooperation with the Latvian Writer’s Union.
